I hope your holiday weekend was pleasant.
At you might expect, not many changes in the ND ranks this week, with just ONE new opening, that in a top 12 market. and ONE job filled.
With those changes, there are still 19 open ND jobs on our list. While none of those open jobs are featured in Paid Help Wanted ads, we do have ONE ad this week for a Senior Producer position at AccuWeather.
ONE obituary, of a long-ago Minneapolis ND who will be much better remembered for his decades anchoring for THREE different stations in St. Louis.
And there’s ONE GM change this week.

WEYI-TV, Flint/Saginaw/Bay City, MI…KARIN (cq) MOVESIAN returns to the market, this time as ND for this Sinclair owned NBC affiliate. Earlier in her career she was the ND for WNEM-TV (CBS) there. Karin’s also been ND in St. Louis, Kansas City, and Las Vegas. At WEYI, she replaces NEILLE-ANN GIFFUNE who left in July after three years as ND. She now works as a recruiter for Nexstar.
New News Director Opening:

KPNX-TV, Phoenix, AZ…Wednesday’s UPDATE told you GEORGE DAVILAS is leaving this Tegna owned (at least now) NBC affiliate. He’s not responded to emails and his station bio, which I linked to on Wednesday, has (surprise!) been removed (but we have it here.) His background is more program related than newsroom. He was ND here for 6+ years.

The Senior Producer, Live Broadcast for AccuWeather will be producing compelling live video segments for the national and award-winning AccuWeather Television Network on a daily and as-needed schedule. T
he Senior Producer, Live Broadcast will put together the rundown for each individual segment and work with a team of on-air broadcasters, director, graphics, studio crew and video editors to develop innovative and engaging content. The weather and the news require 24/7/365 coverage and the live broadcast producer will be required to work differing hours, depending on the severity of the weather situation or breaking news story.
AccuWeather is looking for someone who has a strong entrepreneurial spirit, a BA or BS in Journalism, Communications or Meteorology and has demonstrated at least 5 years of experience in a dynamic, live news production environment at a television station or broadcast network.
This mid-level position will work at AccuWeather’s Headquarters in State College, Pennsylvania.

Obituary:
Ford
While he was once a news director in Minneapolis, DICK FORD is better known as an anchor for three stations in St. Louis. Dick was 88 when he died Tuesday. He worked at (then) KMOX-TV, later at (then) KSD-TV, and finished his career at KTVI-TV. Here are stories from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, KSDK, and KTVI. I had the pleasure of working with Dick at KSD, and he was a true gentleman. He also worked in Pittsburgh and Charleston WV.

Former Miami and Orlando anchor STEVE RONDINARO (as he told me) can’t quite get the hang of retirement. Steve, who spent a short time as ND for a station he owned in Boone, NC, is now an adjunct at Coastal Carolina University. Here’s part of a note he sent me. He also anchored in Wilmington, NC, and spent eleven years in a marketing/PR role at the French Lick Resort and Casino here in Indiana.

WKMG-TV (Graham Media/CBS/Orlando) ND ALLISON McGINLEY has been named to the Hall of Fame at her alma mater, University of Central Florida. Allison is also about to conclude her term as Chair of RTDNA. She’s been ND at WKMG since 2015 and has worked there for 28 years.

Old friend JON McCRARY, a 27 year veteran of WWMT-TV in Kalamazoo, MI, where he is the Assistant News Director for this Sinclair owned CBS affiliate, has been honored with entry into the NATAS-Michigan Chapter Silver Circle. Jon ran the assignment desk for me when we worked at WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids in 1994. He’s also worked in Cedar Rapids.
General Manager News and Notes:
Lane
Graham Media stayed within the family to fill the GM opening at Houston’s KPRC-TV (NBC) by transferring PHIL LANE from its San Antonio station, KSAT-TV (ABC). He’s been the GM there since 2011 and has also been a GM in several other markets, as you’ll learn here. Phil replaces JERRY MARTIN who is retiring after 11 years as GM there.
