A very slow week, with just ONE new news director opening, NO new hires, and a resulting move to 20 openings on our admittedly unofficial list of open ND jobs. The full list is, as always, at the bottom of the newsletter.

Longtime Seattle newsman STEVE KONEN is retiring after a 35 year career, the last 28 of which he spent as assignment manager at Cox’s KIRO-TV (CBS). He earlier had worked for KOMO-TV (ABC) in Seattle. His current ND, TARA FINESTONE, sent me this email which includes the note she sent to her staff. Best wishes to Steve for a long and happy retirement.

OLIVIA DICKINSON moves within Scripps and up I-25 as she becomes the next Assistant ND for KMGH-TV (ABC) in Denver. ND HOLLY GAUNTT announced the hire in this note to the staff. Olivia is currently the Assistant ND for Scripps’ KOAA-TV in Colorado Springs. She’s worked in markets coast to coast, as you will learn in her KOAA station bio.
O’Neil
Another Scripps station fills a management opening from within the company. MICHAEL O’NEIL joins WMAR-TV (ABC) in Baltimore as EP. He’s been the morning EP for the last six years at KTUL-TV (Sinclair/ABC) in Tulsa. Michael’s a former news director in Bangor, ME, and has worked in a number of markets, including Grand Rapids, MI, where he worked for me at WOOD-TV.
Tegna’s WTSP-TV (CBS) in Tampa-St. Petersburg reports two internal promotions. ERICA GUEVARA moves to Assistant News Director and ANDREW KRIETZ was promoted to Director of Digital Content.

Sinclair has named VALERIE KOONCE as its next GM for KBOI/KYUU-TV (CBS/CW) in Boise, ID. It’s a return to Boise for Valerie, who was the General Sales Manager for the duopoly from 2014-2018. In between, she’s been the Marketing Sales Manager for KUTV, Sinclair’s CBS affiliate in Salt Lake City. She’s also worked for two other Salt Lake City stations, as you’ll learn in this news release.
