Greetings:

Just ONE newly named news director in our report this week, so our list of open ND jobs drops to 34.

But we have news about another top 20 ND who’s getting a promotion (but will keep his current ND gig).

That’s in Names in the News below, along with sad news about a former Meredith executive who’s been diagnosed with brain cancer. And we have links to TWO national stories about changes coming to network news operations.

TWO Gray Television general managers are leaving. One left her station on Friday, and the other will depart at the end of the year.

We’ve relisted an ad for an AM EP job in a top ten market and also have ads for Spectrum, with both a National EP opening and a local EP job, in different cities in Florida.

NAB in New York is this week…if you are going please stop by the Octopus booth and meet former ND SCOTT FITZGERALD learn more about their innovate system. And longtime supporters Stephen Arnold Music is with us this edition, as well.

Read on!

Schnell

Congratulations to KCRA-TV (Sacramento/NBC) ND DEREK SCHNELL who is adding additional duties as a Regional ND for parent company Hearst Television. He’s been ND at KCRA for almost four years and has worked there for ten. Derek’s a Hearst lifer, having also worked in Omaha, Oklahoma City, and Kansas City before joining KCRA. He began at KOMU-TV, the University of Missouri’s NBC affiliate in Columbia.

ABC has joined the long list of broadcasters who are laying off employees.

And in a story which should surprise few of our readers, The Wall Street Journal forecasts a decline in the eight figure salaries paid to star network anchors.

   Lowe
