Mike Gaytán to leave KTAZ for VP of News role at Telemundo San Diego

November 10, 2021 by Veronica Villafañe

Mike Gaytán has been named VP of News KUAN Telemundo 20 San Diego. He takes over the position left vacant by Pedro Calderón, who resigned in August.

Gaytán will oversee the San Diego station’s newsroom operations effective December 13.

He makes the move to California from Arizona, where he has led the Telemundo Phoenix newsroom for the past five years. During his tenure at KTAZ, he oversaw newscast ratings growth and the launch of a local consumer unit. He was most recently part of a team that helped launch local news at the company’s recently acquired station, Telemundo Nuevo México.

His last day at KTAZ is December 12.

Gaytán previously worked at Univision stations in Texas for 20 years, including KAKW Univision Austin and KWEX Univision San Antonio.

Mike will be dearly missed in AZ. Someone who was compassionate and truly caring for employees well being. He is not only a good boss he is a good person and we will miss him here! He made us feel good about ourselves and gave an opportunity to many of us to come and do what we desired to do for our growth. May our paths cross again! Best of luck mike!
