Greetings:
While I promised an update this weekend, it’s hard to deliver when, to the best of my knowledge, NOTHING happened this week in the world of news management changes.
Or GM changes.
Sadly, though, there were two deaths of young people in our business. While they are not news managers, the typical purview of this publication, I wanted to share them with you as it would be easy to miss the news over a holiday weekend.

You may have seen that CARLEY McCORD, a freelance sports reporter for WDSU-TV in New Orleans, was one of five victims of a plane crash in Lafayette, LA. Here’s how the station covered the accident. The plane was en route to Atlanta for the LSU-Oklahoma football game. Carley was the daughter in law of LSU offensive coordinator STEVE ENSMINGER.

And our sympathy to the staff at WAFF-TV in Huntsville on the death of 31 year old reporter ALLEN STROUD who died Sunday afternoon. He fought stage 4 lung cancer for a year. In this obituary on the station’s website, you’ll learn that Allen followed a most unusual path to television news. Our sympathy to his family, friends, and co-workers at WAFF.

WOWK in Charleston, West Virginia has an immediate opening for a Digital Content Manager.
The DCM owns the overall editorial presentation of the station’s news content on our digital properties. Responsibilities include managing digital content producers, digital MMJs, digital photographers and the rest of the digital staff. Understanding newsroom workflow, task delegation and assignment abilities are paramount.
This is a key newsroom management position essential for the daily digital execution of the brand. This position reports directly to the News Director.
Daily Expectations:
- Manage content display across desktop and mobile
Be a newsroom leader
Be a fixture in the morning and afternoon editorial meetings
Contribute content to relevant events and/or stories as needed
Assist with special project/sweeps planning & execution
Work irregular/odd hours and available to work weekends and holidays
Think strategically about developing the digital audiences and online capacities of newsroom
Help develop new opportunities to expand news brand and services while utilizing new and emerging technologies
Additional responsibilities as assigned by management
Assist in managing sales content elements that have strong revenue potential and web user interest.
