You’ll meet THREE new news directors in this week’s report.
And just ONE new opening for the second week in a row, so our count of open ND jobs drops and now stands at 23.
We have news ads for EP openings in two different markets, as well as ads for a VP/News job for Scripps, an ND opening in Alabama, and two management openings in Houston.
Two obituaries this week, for the mother of a veteran ND and a former GM in Louisville, and a handful of news managers on the move.
New News Director Openings:
WJHG-TV, Panama City, FL…this NBC affiliate, owned by Gray Television, is looking for a news director to replace JAMIE BURCH. We told you last week that Jamie was returning to Texas as ND for Gray’s KBTX-TV in Bryan.

WJBK-TV, Detroit, MI…KEVIN ROSEBOROUGH has been promoted to ND for this FOX o-and-o. He’s been the acting ND since DANA HAHN left to be ND for WTTG-TV, another FOX o-and-o, in Washington. Kevin joined the station in 2004 as Managing Editor, and was later promoted to Assistant ND in 2006. He comes from print: Kevin was the Night City Editor at the Detroit Free Press before moving to TV. Dana spent 17 years here, 14 of them as news director.

KCTV, Kansas City, MO…we were first to tell you that LARRY PERRET has been named ND for this Meredith owned CBS affiliate. Larry most recently was the ND for KTVX-TV in Salt Lake City: he left the station earlier this year after an ownership change. Larry’s a former ND for two stations in Los Angeles (and has worked for a total of five stations there). He’s also worked in Chicago, St. Louis, Boston, San Francisco, Denver, Greensboro, NC, and Colorado Springs. Larry also spent six years as a consultant for Magid. He replaces BLAISE LABBE who left in July to reutrn to Texas as ND for Sinclair’s duopoly in San Antonio, WOAI/KABB-TV. Blaise was ND here for three years.
WTAJ-TV, Altoona, PA…SCOTT LEVY has been named ND for this Nexstar owned CBS affiliate. We told you a few weeks ago that he was leaving Nexstar’s WETM-TV in Elmira, NY, for a job to be named later. He replaces JOHN MECHAM who was ND here for just over a year.

Executive Producer, KTUL-TV, Tulsa, OK:

Tulsa’s Channel 8, an ABC affiliate, is looking for an Executive Producer with these qualifications. Candidates should be a strong communicator under breaking news deadlines and have a background that demonstrates a daily commitment to all news platforms, including online publishing. Must have excellent writing and editing skills for on-air and online. Must possess strong collaboration and interpersonal skills when working with multiple departments, be proficient with the use of graphics and all newsroom resources and able to handle multi-task projects.
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field and at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in line producing newscasts in a medium or large sized market is preferred. Previous management experience is a plus.

KRIV/KTXH currently has two openings for Executive Producer AM & PM.
Individuals will oversee all aspects of AM & PM newscasts. Guide daily editorial direction and help plan and oversee guest bookings and segment ideas and development. Oversee producers, associate producers, anchors and reporters in the selection and formatting of stories. Approve and copy edit scripts, teases and graphics. Help coordinate technical and logistical elements of newscasts.
Requires [4] year college degree in Journalism or Communications. Min. five (5) years producing exp. in mid-major market including show producing experience. [2] yrs mgmt. exp. strongly preferred.
Must be able to work in a fact paced, deadline oriented environment. Must possess good editorial judgment and understand the legal and ethical parameters for mass media. Strong working knowledge of technical aspects of tv news production required, including digital and web based newsgathering tools.

Obituaries:
Our sympathy to former ND and current consultant JONATHAN KNOPF on the loss of his mother. SHARI KNOPF CRASILNECK died Monday at the age of 93 after a long illness. You can learn more about her life by clicking here. Jonathan is currently a Senior Consultant with the Coaching Company. He was GM/ND of News 12 New Jersey, an ND in Raleigh and Charleston, SC, and worked in Dallas, New Orleans, and Shreveport. He also worked for AR&D. NEIL KUVIN, a one-time GM for WHAS-TV in Louisville, died Monday after a long battle with cancer. He was 75. More in this obituary from the station.

LOU COOK, a 14 year veteran of KCBS-TV in Los Angeles, has been promoted to EP of Sports for this o-and-o. He’s been a sports producer there.
I don’t know if he’s taking the Florida Turnpike or I-95, but TRAVIS SHERWIN is headed south from Orlando to West Palm Beach as Assistant ND for Hearst’s WPBF-TV. He’s been the Managing Editor for another Hearst station, WESH-TV, where he worked with WPBF ND PAIGE HARRISON.
KMTV in Omaha has named TOM LESNYA as its new Assistant ND. He previously held the same job at WAND-TV in Decatur, IL, and has also been an EP for WIVB-TV in Buffalo.
