A slight uptick in the number of open news director jobs with THREE new openings this week. ONE of those openings was created by a promotion within a large group that created the ONE newly named ND.

New responsibilities for two veteran newswomen lead off our Names in the News segment. We also have the story of a Missouri newswoman leaving to return to her former market after just six months at her current job. Newly News Director Openings:
KOKI-TV, Tulsa, OK…we told you earlier this week that SUZANNE NADELL was being promoted within Cox Media to become ND for WPXI-TV in Pittsburgh. She’s been the ND here for more than three years. More on her move below.
WFFT-TV, Ft. Wayne, IN…BARBARA BROOKS is leaving this Nexstar owned FOX affiliate as she is expecting her second child and plans to devote her full time to raising her children. She’s worked here for more than seven years, the last year and a few months as ND. She’s also worked as a producer for a station in Indianapolis and another Ft. Wayne station. KESQ-TV, Palm Springs, CA…after more than ten years as ND for the News-Press & Gazette owned station, BOB SMITH is resigning to move to the East Coast for family reasons. This glowing note from GM MIKE STUTZ offers more detail. NPG operates KESQ, the ABC affiliate as well as CBS, FOX, CW and Telemundo affiliates on digital sub channels. Bob’s a former ND in Waterloo, IA who’s also worked in Miami, Tucson, and Cedar Rapids.

WPXI-TV, Pittsburgh, PA…as noted above, SUZANNE NADELL will be the next ND for this Cox Media owned NBC affiliate. ABC affiliate WTEN-TV in Albany, NY has an immediate need for a News Director.
WTEN also operates a JS&S agreement with WXXA (FOX). Responsibilities include managing a news operation that provides news product to both WTEN and WXXA. Ideal candidate will possess strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills along with a passion for multi-platform news distribution. Knowledge of branding and marketing is essential. LEESA DILLON returns to New York as Executive Producer for WCBS-TV. She most recently was the Senior Executive Producer for WGCL-TV in Atlanta. She’s a former news director in Cleveland, as well as for News 12/Bronx-Brooklyn, and has worked in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Detroit, Charlotte and Kansas City.
Another longtime New York City broadcaster, DIANNE DOCTOR, is taking on some new responsibilities. She’s been named Manager of Affiliate Relations for the FOX News Edge. It’s a new position and you can learn more about it here. She’ll continue her duties as Station Manager for FOX’s WWOR-TV in New York. Diane’s a former ND for both WCBS-TV and WNBC-TV in New York and has also worked in Syracuse and Little Rock.
BRIDGET BLEVINS heads back to St. Joseph, MO, as Director of Communications for the St. Joseph School District. More about her new job and salary here. She spent more than eight years as ND/Anchor for KQTV in St. Joseph before moving to Kansas City as Assistant ND for KSHB-TV there last April. KSHB is now advertising for her replacement: you can see that advertisement above.
KIVI-TV in Boise, ID, has promoted STEPHEN SHAW to Executive Producer. He had been the 10:00 producer for that ABC affiliate.
Congratulations to News Director JULI BUEHLER of WLUK-TV in Green Bay who was inducted into the NATAS Silver Circle Saturday night. She’s been the ND for that FOX affiliate for more than 22 years.
General Manager Moves:
ERIK SCHRADER is on the move again. The former sports director turned news director turned general manager is headed to Raycom’s WOIO/WUAB-TV in Cleveland as GM. Here’s the note Raycom’s VP/Television DON RICHARDS sent to the staff. Erik’s been the GM for Media General’s WIAT-TV in Birmingham, AL, for less than a year. KIM GUTHRIE will be the next President of the Cox Media Group, succeeding the retiring BILL HOFFMAN. She’s currently the executive vice president of national ad platforms and president of Cox Reps, an advertising rep firm.
