After starting my retirement journey in February, I've been pondering the question: 'What brings me joy?' My dad's new retirement hobby? Joining a volunteer weather group. Now my morning include statements like, "We got point eight two last night!" At first I thought I my lack of caffeine was to blame when I had trouble understanding what he was saying. Eventually I explained matters to him regarding the amount of detail I wanted before my first cup of coffee: 1. A unit of measurement to give me context, i.e., "inches of rain." 2. A more general summation of the amount, i.e., "over three-fourths." 3. And if possible, a comparison of measurements: "That's more than the rainstorm last week." While it's not a complete success, he does try to include a mention of rainfall now when he announces his findings. Progress!
