Greetings:
This week report features ONE new news director opening, ONE newly named news director, ONE new paid advertisement (though it features two openings), ONE taker on our free Situations Wanted feature, and just ONE item in Names in the News (though the item isn’t really about a name!).
Breaking that streak, there are TWO general manager items, one involving the retirement of a longtime GM who was also a longtime news director in some very large markets. And we’re repeating TWO ads for jobs.
The ND changes leave our list of open ND jobs at 23.
New News Director Opening:
KMOV-TV, St. Louis, MO…we first reported SEAN McLAUGHLIN’s departure from this used-to-be-Belo-and-about-to-be-owned-by-Meredith CBS affiliate earlier this week. Sean’s off to Scripps. where he’ll be VP/News, based at the company’s Cincinnati headquarters. He’s been ND here since 2007, earlier served as ND at two Tulsa stations, as well as Springfield, IL. He’s also worked in Minneapolis and Austin, MN, where he began his career as an anchor/reporter.
Newly Named News Director:
WOWK-TV, Charleston/Huntington, WV…veteran newswoman ELLEN MILLER returns to a newsroom as the ND for this West Virginia Media owned CBS affiliate. Ellen’s been an ND in Sacramento and Charlotte, and has held news management positions in Chicago, Cleveland (two stations), and Nashville, worked as Director of the Center for Sustainable Journalism at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, and, most recently, for a branding and consulting company in Cleveland. At WOWK, she replaces KEITH BAKER who left the station last month after one year as ND. She’ll be the tenth ND in just over eleven years here.
Paid Help Wanted Ads:
