Visitation will be held this Saturday, September 7, 2019, from 10:00 AM-Noon at the Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home in Baton Rouge, followed by a service celebrating his life and legacy.

I hope you’ll have a quiet holiday weekend….for what’s left of it.
Our newsletter is relatively quiet…ONE new news director, ONE new opening, which leaves 27 stations looking for a new ND by my count.
TWO of those jobs are featured among our THREE paid help wanted ads.
We have TWO obituaries, and ONE of them is for a former Mobile ND, the second time in two weeks we’ve reported the passing of a former ND from the same station.

WJRT-TV, Flint/Saginaw, MI…DENISE KILLIAN returns to the ND chair as she will be the next ND for this Gray Television owned ABC affiliate. Her last ND job was at KSNW-TV in Wichita, a job she left in 2017. She’s also been a news director in Davenport, IA, and has worked in Dallas, Nashville, and Temple and Corpus Christi, TX. Denise replaces JAYNE HODAK who announced in June she’d leave the station after eight years as ND at 16 at the station.

WMBF-TV, Myrtle Beach, SC…ASHLEY TALLEY is headed to WRAL-TV in Raleigh as Enterprise Executive Producer. She’s been ND for this Gray TV owned NBC affiliate since May 2015. We have the notes from WMBF GM SARAH MILES and WRAL Assistant ND AYSU BASARAN. Ashley’s also worked in Charlotte, New Bern, and Wilmington. And she kindly let me know that she learned about the WRAL job via this station’s paid help wanted ad in this newsletter.

The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining market leading standards for newsroom operations and content. Obituaries:

For the second time in two weeks, we report the death of a former WALA-TV (Mobile) news director. This week it’s CHUCK BARK, who ran the news department for ten years (and then spent 14 at WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge before retiring in 2015), who died Thursday. He was 67 and lost his battle with cancer. He also worked in Memphis. Both WALA and WBRZ posted tributes. Here’s WALA’s and here is WBRZ’s. Services will be private. Last week we told you about the death of former WALA ND WAYNE BARNETT.

And another former ND, GLEN MOBERG, died this week, also of cancer. He’s a former ND and anchor for WSAW-TV in Wausau, WI, also worked for many years at WAOW-TV in Wausau, and spent the last 16 years of his career at Wisconsin Public Radio. This interesting obituary tells the life story of a newsman, storyteller, and musician.

MARIA MARTINEZ GUZMAN is being promoted at Univision. She’s moving from her current job as VP of News Gathering to Senior VP and Executive News Director of Univision News, effective immediately. More details in this story from Media Moves. Maria has worked at Univision’s corporate headquarters in Miami since 2002 and assumed the VP/News Gathering job in 2016.
